Samaria, Salvation, and Simon the Sorcerer
Acts 8:9-25
After a great persecution came against the Early Church in Jerusalem, the believers were scattering throughout the various regions of Israel including Samaria. It was in Samaria that Philip, one of the faithful deacons of the Jerusalem church, went to preach the Gospel. As the Gospel went out, it was accompanied by many miracles where demon possessed people were delivered and many were healed of illnesses. These events attracted a sorcerer by the name of Simon who wanted to purchase the power to do the same thing. Word of this excitement made its way back to Jerusalem, which prompted Peter and John to venture to Samaria to check things out which in turn brought these men to rebuke Simon and demand his repentance.
