Break Up The Fallow Ground
Hosea 7-10
As the Northern Kingdom of Israel was relentless in their sin against God, God too was relentless in warning them of the coming judgment of their sin at the same time exhorting them to turn back to Him. In chapter 8, we read of the timeless lesson, “sow to the wind, and reap the whirlwind.” Sin only has a downward course. Because their hearts were hard and like hard soil, God tells the people to break up the fallow ground. There can be no good results. Hosea's message was to this sinful nation, but because of God's timeless word, is also directed to us.
