A Failing Compromise
Acts 21:18-40
When Paul returned to Jerusalem, he was enthusiastically met by the church leaders. But this support was short-lived by the fact these same leaders talked Paul into taking some recent Jewish converts into the Temple and pay their expenses for keeping a vow, which Paul did. Their argument was, if Paul did this then the concerns that the Jewish religious leaders had concerning Paul would then be appeased seeing that Paul still honored the Jewish rites. However, this backfired and an uproar occurred leading to Paul’s arrest. From that point on, we don’t find any of the Jerusalem church leadership standing in support of Paul.
