We Want a King Like the World
1 Samuel 8
Samuel was now up in years and the people knowing that he wouldn’t be around much longer, they now demand that as a nation they have a king so they can be like all the other nations. For Samuel, he took this personally, but God told Samuel, “for they have not rejected you, but have rejected Me.” To satisfy the people’s demands, God instructs Samuel to warn the people of the cost they will bear to support a king. Yet hearing Samuel's warnings, the people still demand that he appoint for them a king.
