As you might imagine, the defeat of Goliath brought a major turn to David’s simple life. Besides giving him instant notoriety, it opened the door to bring him permanently out of the fields of his father and into the palace of King Saul. Yet the death of one giant enemy was also to create the threat of another. Saul had begun as a friend whom David faithfully served but that relationship was now about to change as God began giving David wisdom and favor with men and raising him up, which Saul responded to defiantly.
