David Made King in Judah
2 Samuel 2
In chapter 2, David is finally made king over Judah, in which he was to reign for 7 years from Hebron. However, Saul's influence was still strong over the rest of the nation limiting David's influence to his native tribe of Judah. Abner, Saul's commander in chief and cousin, attempts to keep his position and power by maneuvering Ishbosheth, Saul's son, to be king over the eleven tribes ignoring God's choice in David. This provoked a civil war between Abner and his forces and Joab, David's commander in chief.
