In Proverbs we are told that pride goes before destruction and we see that truth so evident in the chapters of this study. David had fought many battles and secured victory on every front and the nation was enjoying peace all around. This measure of peace tempted David to let his guard down by staying at home with an abundance of idle time. It was this idle time that set him up to for his adulterous affair with Bathsheba and his attempts to cover the evidence.
