The Effect of Unfaithfulness

James 4:4-6a

Throughout Scripture we are told that the world and God have nothing in common. Jesus told his disciples that they were not of the world but rather He had chosen them out of the world. With that in mind, James shows that when believers pursue the world and its influences then they become God's enemies. As such, James says they become spiritual adulterers and adulteresses. As we give our lives to Jesus we become betrothed to Him as a bride to a futures husband. Therefore, as believers, we are to keep ourselves unspotted from the taint of this world.
